Welcome to our website!

As an essential part of promoting our Guatemalan ancestral roots through cultural and humanitarian aid, Mayan Folkloric Organization was born. The collaborative effort and work of each of our members motivates us to focus on our main objectives. We are conscious of the fact that there are always basic needs involving humanitarian aid waiting for our support and with your help we hope to accomplish this goal.

Thank you.

President/Director

The Marimba—A musical instrument made of “Hormigo” wood that is part of the percussion family. Keys are struck with mallets that are made of natural rubber to produce musical tones and from the branches of the Witzizil tree. There are different ethnicities in Guatemala that have their own name for the marimba, for example in Mayan Quiche it is called “K’ojom” which means wood that sings. Traditionally it is known throughout Guatemala as the “Marimba”.
